Radio Operator specific tip: Unlike general tradesman posts, the GK section for the Radio Operator post may include questions on basic electronics, signal theory, communication systems, and abbreviations used in radio/telecom. Cover these from your ITI Electronics notes alongside standard GK preparation.
Physical Standard Test

PST – Physical Standards for Radio Operator (Havildar) 2026

The Havildar (Operator Radio & Line) post falls under the first PST category — applicable to most Havildar and Rifleman trades. Only male candidates apply for this post; no female height standards apply here.

PST for Havildar (Operator Radio & Line) – Male Candidates Only
Category / RegionHeight (Male)Chest – NormalChest – Expanded
General (all candidates not covered below)170 cm80 cm85 cm
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas + candidates from Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, HP, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kashmir, Leh & Ladakh (J&K)165 cm78 cm83 cm

Being from the Northeast (Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram etc.) qualifies you for the relaxed height standard of 165 cm even if you are not from Garhwali/Gorkha descent. Chest measurement must meet both normal and expanded requirements simultaneously.
Physical Efficiency Test

PET – Running Standards 2026

Running endurance is tested. Since this is a male-only post, only male PET standards apply. Ladakh region candidates have a relaxed criterion due to high-altitude conditions.

All India (except Ladakh)Male5 km24 minutes
Ladakh RegionMale1.6 km6 min 30 sec
Start your running practice at least 3 months before the exam. Aim to comfortably run 5 km in under 22 minutes during practice — this gives a 2-minute buffer on exam day for unexpected fatigue or weather conditions.
Preparation Strategy

How to Prepare for Assam Rifles Radio Operator Exam 2026

The Radio Operator post is more competitive than general tradesman posts due to its technical nature. A structured 4–6 month plan with equal focus on physical and written preparation is essential.

Leverage your technical background

Your ITI/PCM background is a real advantage for GK (electronics topics) and Reasoning. Don’t ignore these — they are where you gain extra marks over non-technical candidates.

Nail the Trade Test first

The Skill Test comes before the Written Exam. Practice radio operating procedures, Morse code basics, signal terminology, and equipment names. Failing the trade test ends your journey early.

Daily Reasoning practice

Spend 45 min each day on series, coding-decoding, and direction problems. Reasoning is the fastest-improving section with consistent daily practice.

Maths: Focus on core chapters

Number Systems, Percentage, Ratio, and Profit & Loss cover about 60–70% of all Quantitative questions. Master these before moving to time/work or data interpretation.

Run 5 km every second day

Treat PET as seriously as the written exam. Without clearing the physical stages, your written preparation is irrelevant. Build stamina over months, not weeks.

Weekly full mock tests

Attempt one complete 100-question mock every week under timed conditions. Review mistakes before the next mock. Track your score trend across 8–10 mocks over 2–3 months.
