Selection Process

Assam Rifles Tradesman Selection Process 2026

The selection involves six mandatory stages. Passing all stages is required to be placed on the merit list — but clearing each stage alone does not guarantee final selection. Merit is drawn based on overall performance and vacancy availability per state, category, and trade.

1

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Height of all candidates and chest measurements of male candidates are checked against prescribed regional and category-specific standards. Qualifying round — no marks awarded.

2

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Running endurance assessed over prescribed distance and time. Female candidates must not be pregnant (undertaking certificate required). Ladakh region candidates have adjusted criteria due to high altitude.

3

Document Verification

Original documents including educational certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), age proof, and domicile are verified by the recruitment board.

4

Trade / Skill Test

Practical assessment of trade-specific skills. Conducted before the Written Test and Medical Exam. Graded as Pass/Fail — no marks carry forward. Only those who pass can appear for the Written Exam.

5

Written Examination

100-question offline OMR-based exam across 4 subjects. Minimum qualifying marks: 35% (General/EWS) and 33% (SC/ST/OBC). Total duration: 2 hours.

6

Detailed Medical Exam (DME) & Review Medical Exam (RME)

Comprehensive fitness check. Candidates who fail the medical round are not considered for the post. Final merit list is published after this stage based on vacancies and categories.

Preparation Strategy

How to Crack Assam Rifles Tradesman Exam 2026

A 3–6 month structured study plan is ideal. Here is what consistently works for candidates who clear this exam on the first attempt:

Map topics before opening books

Print this syllabus and tick off topics as you cover them. Never study outside the syllabus — it wastes time with no return.

Prioritise GK & Reasoning

These two sections are the fastest to improve with daily revision. Spend 1 hour each on GK and Reasoning every day in the first month.

Conquer maths fundamentals first

Cover Number Systems, Ratio, Percentage, and Profit-Loss before moving to complex chapters. 80% of Quant questions come from these.

Attempt full mock tests weekly

Simulate exam conditions: 100 questions, 120 minutes, no breaks. Track accuracy per section and plug weak areas between mocks.

Train for PST/PET simultaneously

Male candidates must run 5 km in 24 minutes. Start training 3 months before. Physical failure means no shot at the written exam.

Attempt every question — no penalty

Zero negative marking is your advantage. In the last 15 minutes, fill all blanks using smart elimination: rule out 2 options, then guess.
