Why the Clerk Post Stands Out
The Havildar (Clerk) post has several distinct advantages compared to other Assam Rifles trades — making it a top choice for 12th pass candidates, especially female aspirants.
Open to Both Genders
Unlike most AR trades, the Clerk post accepts applications from male and female candidates equally.
12th Pass Eligible
No ITI, diploma, or technical degree needed. Senior secondary (10+2) qualification is sufficient.
Office / Indoor Role
Administrative work in a structured office environment — safer, more stable, with regular working hours.
Group C Pay Scale
Havildar rank with 7th CPC pay scale benefits, allowances, ration, accommodation, and medical facilities.
Clear Career Growth
Promotion pathway through Naib Subedar and Subedar ranks with experience and departmental exams.
Skill-Based Selection
Computer typing is a verifiable, trainable skill — not dependent on strength or physical dominance.
Assam Rifles Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2022
Confirm all eligibility criteria before applying. Candidates found ineligible at any stage will be rejected without notice and may be barred from future recruitment.
Typing Skill Test Norms — What You Must Know
The Typing Skill Test is one of the most critical differentiators for the Clerk post. It is conducted on a computer. Candidates must meet the minimum speed requirement — the test is Pass/Fail and those who fail cannot proceed further in the selection process.
English typing speed of 35 words per minute on a computer keyboard. Tested using standard typing software.
Hindi typing speed of 35 words per minute on a computer keyboard. Candidates may choose either English or Hindi.
Assam Rifles Clerk Selection Process 2026
The Clerk post follows a six-stage selection process. Note the unique order — the Typing Skill Test occurs alongside or before the Written Exam, unlike most other trades where only a Trade Test is conducted. All stages are mandatory.
Physical Standard Test (PST)
Height and chest (males) verified. The Clerk post has relaxed height standards compared to most other Havildar trades — 165 cm for general male candidates (vs 170 cm for other posts). No marks awarded.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Running endurance tested. Female candidates must submit a pregnancy undertaking certificate. Ladakh candidates have a separate, relaxed criterion. Qualifying stage — no marks awarded.
Typing Skill Test Computer-based · Pass/Fail
Mandatory computer typing test — 35 WPM in English or 35 WPM in Hindi. Conducted before the Written Exam and Detailed Medical Exam. No marks carry forward. Failing this test eliminates the candidate entirely.
Written Examination
100-question offline OMR-based exam covering English Language, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness (25 each). Duration: 2 hours. No negative marking. Minimum pass marks: 35% (Gen/EWS) and 33% (SC/ST/OBC).
Document Verification
Original documents verified — 10+2 marksheet, age proof, caste certificate (if applicable), identity proof, and domicile. Candidates with discrepancies in documents are rejected at this stage.
Detailed Medical Exam (DME) + Review Medical Exam (RME)
Comprehensive fitness assessment. Final merit list published after DME/RME based on written exam score, category vacancies, and state-wise allocation. Passing all stages does not guarantee selection.
Assam Rifles Clerk Written Exam Pattern 2026
The written exam is conducted in offline mode (OMR sheets). All four subjects carry equal marks. The paper is set at Class 10 / high school level. No negative marking applies — attempt every single question.

How to Crack Assam Rifles Clerk Exam 2026
The Clerk post demands a dual preparation strategy — written exam + typing skill. Many candidates focus only on the written exam and fail the typing test. Start both simultaneously from day one.
Start typing practice from Day 1
Use free tools like TypingClub or 10FastFingers daily. Set a target of 40 WPM in your chosen language within 60 days — this gives a comfortable buffer above the 35 WPM requirement.
English is your biggest weapon
The Clerk post is heavily English-oriented. Spend extra time on Spotting Errors, Sentence Improvement, and Idioms & Phrases — these alone can fetch 15–18 marks out of 25 in the English section.
Prioritise GK for quick wins
Spend 45 minutes daily on GK revision — current affairs + static GK. Use a monthly affairs capsule and NCERT Class 6–10 for Indian History, Geography, and Polity.
Reasoning — solve 30 questions daily
Focus on Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Directions, and Blood Relations. These high-frequency topics account for 60–70% of reasoning marks in similar exams.
Maths: essentials only
For Clerk, Maths difficulty is moderate. Prioritise Percentage, Ratio, Profit & Loss, Average, and Simple Interest. Do not waste time on Boats & Streams or Mixture unless you finish the core topics first.
Physical prep alongside academics
Female candidates must run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes. Male candidates: 5 km in 24 min. Start running 3 months before. Failing PST/PET means your typing and written preparation counts for nothing.
