Selection Process

UP Home Guard Selection Process 2026

The selection follows a three-stage process. Only candidates who qualify the written exam are called for the physical tests. All stages are mandatory and qualifying in nature.

1

Written Examination Stage 1 · 100 Marks

100 objective-type MCQs from General Knowledge only. Duration: 2 hours. Minimum qualifying marks: 25%. No negative marking. Conducted offline via OMR sheet. Only qualifying candidates are shortlisted for the Physical Test.

2

Physical Standard Test (PST) + Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Stage 2 · Qualifying

PST checks height and weight (males: height & chest; females: height & weight). PET tests running endurance. Both are qualifying rounds — no marks awarded. Candidates who fail either PST or PET are eliminated.

3

Document Verification & Medical Examination Stage 3 · Final

Original documents are verified including educational certificates, age proof, domicile, and caste certificate (if applicable). A medical examination confirms physical fitness. The final merit list is drawn after this stage.

UP-Specific GK — Critical Section

Uttar Pradesh Specific GK Topics 2026

This is the section that sets UP Home Guard apart from all other state-level exams. A dedicated portion of the General Knowledge paper tests candidates specifically on Uttar Pradesh — its history, administration, culture, police system, and local events. No other exam in India tests UP-specific knowledge this deeply.

Exam insight: UP-specific questions often contribute 20–30% of the total GK paper. Candidates who master this section gain a major advantage over those who focus only on general national GK. Prepare from UP government reports, local news, and dedicated UP GK books.

Preparation Strategy

How to Crack UP Home Guard Exam 2026

Since the entire exam is GK-based, preparation is highly focused. A 2–3 month dedicated plan is sufficient for most candidates. The physical tests require simultaneous preparation.

Master UP-specific GK first

This is your biggest differentiator. Cover UP history, polity, culture, major schemes, and police administration from a dedicated UP GK book. Competitors often skip this — don’t be one of them.

Cover last 6 months of current affairs

Use a reliable monthly current affairs magazine or app. Focus on appointments, awards, national events, and UP government announcements. Spend 30 min daily on this.

Attempt all 100 questions — no penalty

Zero negative marking is a strategic gift. Never leave blanks. Even wild guesses have a 25% chance of being correct. Spend the last 10 minutes filling any unattempted questions.

Practice with previous year papers

PYQs reveal which topics repeat most often. Solve at least 5–10 previous papers under timed conditions. Identify your weak GK areas and plug them before the exam.

Build running stamina now

Male candidates must run 4.8 km in 28 minutes. Start 3 months early. Run every other day, gradually increasing distance and pace. Failing PET wastes all written exam effort.

Follow a daily revision schedule

Split your daily 2-hour study into: 45 min UP-GK, 45 min static GK, 30 min current affairs. Weekly: solve one complete 100-question mock test and review performance.
