Assam Police Running Marks Calculation Formula
Assam Police does not award race marks in one flat step. Instead, marks fall in bands, and within each band marks reduce by a fixed amount for every extra second taken. This is why the calculator above works to the exact second rather than rounding to the nearest table row.
Male — 3200 metres (maximum 20 marks)
- Up to 10:00 (600 sec): full 20.00 marks.
- 10:01–10:30 (601–630 sec): marks reduce by 0.08 per second from 20.00.
- 10:31–11:10 (631–670 sec): marks reduce by 0.06 per second from 17.60.
- 11:11–12:10 (671–730 sec): marks reduce by 0.04 per second from 15.20.
- 12:11–13:10 (731–790 sec): marks reduce by 0.03 per second from 12.80.
- 13:11–14:00 (791–840 sec): marks reduce by 0.02 per second from 11.00, reaching 10.00 marks exactly at 14:00.

Calculation: 17.00 − (0.08 × (375 − 360)) = 17.00 − 1.20 = 15.80 marks.
Example 3 — Why the exact second matters
A male candidate finishing at exactly 14:00 (840 seconds) is still within the maximum time and scores 10.00 marks — the lowest score still awarded. A candidate finishing at 14:01 (841 seconds) — just one second later — exceeds the 14-minute cut-off and receives no marks in the race event. This is exactly why the calculator works to the exact second entered rather than rounding to the nearest table row.
