SSC CGL 2026 – Introduction

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. SSC aims to fill approximately 12,256 Group B and Group C vacancies across various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India, as well as Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies, and Tribunals.

Any graduate from a recognized university can apply online from 21st May 2026 to 22nd June 2026. The pay scale ranges from Pay Level 4 to Pay Level 8 (₹25,500 – ₹1,51,100/month), covering posts such as Assistant Audit Officer, Inspector of Income Tax, Sub Inspector (CBI), Tax Assistant, Postal/Sorting Assistant, and more.

Age Limit

The age limit for SSC CGL 2026 varies depending on the post applied for. Candidates must have been born between the dates specified below (as on the cut-off date mentioned in the official notification):

Educational Qualification

Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Statistical Investigator Grade-II

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines from a recognized university or institute: Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Demography, Population Studies, Operation Research, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology, Computer Application, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence.

All Other Posts

A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute in any subject is required. Candidates appearing in their final year of graduation can also apply; however, they must possess the essential qualification by 01st August 2026.

SSC CGL 2026 – Application Fee

Payment Mode: The application fee can be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, SBI Challan, or SBI Net Banking. Fee once paid is non-refundable under any circumstances.

SSC CGL 2026 – Salary Details

SSC CGL posts come with an attractive pay package under the 7th Central Pay Commission. The in-hand salary is significantly higher than the basic pay, thanks to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and other perks.

SSC CGL 2026 – Selection Process

Selection to SSC CGL 2026 posts is based on a multi-stage process. Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed to the next:

• Tier-I (CBE): Computer Based Objective Type examination open to all eligible candidates. Shortlisting for Tier-II is based on Tier-I scores.
• Tier-II (CBE): Computer Based Examination consisting of Paper-I (mandatory for all posts) and Paper-II (only for JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts).
• Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test: Applicable for certain posts such as Tax Assistant (Data Entry Speed Test), Assistant Section Officer (Computer Proficiency Test), and others as specified in the official notification.
• Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted after all computer-based stages will be called for document verification to confirm their eligibility and category.
• Medical Examination: Applicable for specific posts such as Sub Inspector (CBI) and Inspector posts where a medical fitness standard is prescribed by the recruiting department.

The final merit list is prepared based on the normalized scores of the Computer Based Examinations. There is no re-evaluation or re-checking of scores at any stage.

Tier-I Examination Pattern

• Question Type: Objective Type – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
• Medium: Both English & Hindi (except English Comprehension)
• Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer
• Normalization: Marks will be normalized using SSC’s formula if the exam is held in multiple shifts

Tier-II Examination

Tier-II consists of Paper-I and Paper-II conducted on separate days/shifts:

• Paper-I: Compulsory for all candidates shortlisted in Tier-I, covering subjects like Quantitative Abilities, English Language & Comprehension, Statistics, and General Studies (Finance & Economics). Refer to the official notification for the detailed Paper-I pattern.
